Rachel Maksimovic on solo motherhood, letting go of perfection, and doing your best
Plus, nine quicks tips on returning to work from the Ready or Not Instagram community
Picture yourself living the good life in Bali. You pee on a stick thinking you'll quickly quash any fears that you might be pregnant, but those two lines appear. The test is positive and you're keeping the baby. Only, you're doing it solo.
You work for yourself, you don't tell your clients that you're pregnant for fear of losing the work and the much needed income, and maternity leave isn't a thing.
But you make it work, and every day, your beautiful boy serves as a reminder of everything you've done.
This is the incredible story of mother and marketing strategist Rachel Maksimovic.
It's warts and all, it's real, and it's beautiful.

Plus, nine quicks tips on returning to work from the Ready or Not Instagram community
We love a poll and Q&A on Ready or Not, and recently, we asked for our community’s best tips for returning to work. Here are nine quick things to consider in the lead up to the return to work. We also discussed this on our most recent episode of our sister podcast Witching Hour, which you can listen to here!
Have a discussion about who will call in if kids are sick.
Services to assist – meals, cleaner, whatever you can afford, even if it’s just for a one off while you ease back in!
My mum picked up my son from daycare when he was sick. It gave me space to settle back in!
Use your keep in touch days (10 paid) to ease back in.
Talk to your partner about what will change when you’re no longer at home full time.
Returned this week. Removed leaving early guilt by emailing my team and managers prior to the return with my hours.
Partner to take time off. Ease into work knowing your child is with their other parent and not also adjusting to daycare.
Prep the fridge/freezer with meals to lighten the load so you can lap up fam time after work.Â
If I work, my partner works less or not at all. Lucky to be able to do this but gee it helps!
